The University of Eldoret, through the Directorate of Gender Equity and Diversity aims to promote gender equity in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of University programs, training, research, and extension; and contribute to the achievement of equal opportunities, conducive working and learning environment and level playing ground for both genders.
To mark International Women’s Day on 8th March 2016, the Directorate of Gender, Equity and Diversity conducted a gender awareness sensitization campaign for the University and neighboring communities. The event theme was: “A Pledge for Parity”. The celebrations were marked by a colorful roadshow which was launched at the Eldoret town campus all the way to the main university. The colorful event was characterized by poetry, song and dance by the Universities’ drama group and neighboring primary and secondary schools.

In her speech, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Teresa Akenga, represented by the Corporate affairs officer Ms. Cynthia Chebii mentioned the huge imbalances between women and men in positions of administration at national and institutional level. The Chief Guest Ms Rebecca Butalanyi, county director of education, Busia pointed out that although the Government had embraced affirmative action, there is still a lot that needs to be done to achieve equity
