Biography

Prof. Lizzy Mwamburi is an Associate Professor of Plant Pathology at Department of the University of Eldoret. She is a graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (SA) (PhD), University of Melbourne (Australia) (MSc) and Moi University (MSc). In addition, she carried out her postdoctoral research studies at Gottingen University, Germany.

She has mentored over 30 postgraduate students, carrying out research in biological control of insect vectors and wastewater management using grants that she has received individually and together with other researchers from various institutions. She has published over 50 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. Some of her achievements include the development of environmental friendly Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) that is fed to chicken to help rid poultry houses of nuisance flies and use of endophytic fungi to control economically important pests the fall armyworm, the tomato leaf miner, and the desert locust.

She is a recipient of several scholarships and grants including Equity and Merit Australian Government Scholarship, Commonwealth Scholarship, British Council Fellowship, Organization for Women in Science in the Developing World Fellowship, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) – DFG fellowship, National Research grant, American Society for Microbiology Course for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE) Leadership Grant for International Educators, Australia Awards Africa and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Research Grants.
