The University of Eldoret is planning to conduct a self-assessment of some of its programs in the academic year 2019/2020 as part of the internal quality assurance of the academic programs offered in the University.
As part of the preparation, the Directorate of Quality Assurance organized training on, "Internal Quality Self-Assessment and the Legal Framework for Quality Assurance" for University Management Board Members, Deans of Schools, Directors, Heads of Academic Departments and Deputy Registrars on 14th November 2019.
The training was conducted by facilitators from the Commission for University Education. These were Ag. Deputy Commission Secretary, Quality Assurance, Mrs. Lynette Kisaka and the Head of Legal Department, Mr. Isaac W. Gathirwa.
In his opening remarks the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration and Finance Prof. Wilson Ng'etich who was in the capacity of the Ag. Vice-Chancellor thanked the Commission for University Education for continued support and partnership in ensuring that UoE offers quality programs and services. The acting Vice-Chancellor assured the facilitators from the Commission that the University will continue upholding the prescribed standards both locally and internationally.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students and Academic Affairs), Prof. Ruth Otunga reiterated that the University of Eldoret has consistently observed the standards as prescribed and regulated by the Commission. She further reminded the participants that the programs offered in the University should meet International Standards as well and hence the need to carry out a program self-assessment.
The facilitators on their part informed the participants that the Commission in its capacity as regulators also regards Universities as partners and would always consult with individual Universities on areas that need to be improved to ensure that agreed standards are adhered to throughout the process of delivery of Quality Education at University level. They applauded the University for the Initiative of sensitizing Top and Middle Management as part of the journey to carry out program self-assessment to determine the level of adherence to the required standards. The facilitators informed the participants that the Commission was open for discussion on the guidelines and standards developed to regulate the Universities.
