The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Teresa Akenga has called upon the first-year students of the academic year 2019/2020 to dare to be innovative if they truly want to advance the University Motto, Vision and Niche within the International scene.
In her speech during the orientation ceremony of over 1,800 new students admitted to the University which was held on the 6th of September, 2019 at the Charter Grounds nest to Forest Building, Prof. Akenga reminded the new students that the University of Eldoret is a hub of Agriculture, Blue-Economy and Innovation, and failure to enhance differentiated innovation would render the University core mandate meaningless. ‘As a premier University that is globally vision in knowledge generation and technology innovations, we bank on fresh minds and young intellectuals who dare to be visionary and innovative' she said.
Prof. Akenga further called upon the students to make the best out of their newfound environment and utilize the little resources within their disposal to enhance sustainable development. She implored that the first-year students need to be risk-takers in order to be competitive in this world that is fast-changing.
She warned the new students of the freedom that comes with University life and cautioned them against engaging in activities that may derail their academic excellence. She finalized by urging them to engage in co-curriculum activities and identify mentors within the pool of lecturers in the University to further their career dreams.
Also present during the Vice-Chancellor address to the first-year students of the academic year 2019/2020 were the University Management Board members, Deans and Directors/Members of Senate, University Staffs, Student leaders and the University of Eldoret Alumni Officials.
